Sentient recently partnered with Schneider Associates to conduct the Tenth Annual Most Memorable New Product Launch Survey. The results of this study have been published in USA Today and can also be accessed at MMNPL.
Despite the large number of new products launched in 2011, there were a few that were especially memorable to consumers. Kinect for Xbox 360 topped the list, with 27 percent of Americans identifying it as one of the most memorable products of 2011, though the Nintendo 3DS and 2011 Chevrolet Volt were not far behind, tying for second place. Interestingly, memorability of new products this year was dramatically lower than that of 2010, with the Apple iPad being voted as most memorable in 2010 by 42 percent of Americans.

Of the top ten most remembered products of 2011, six of the products on this list were food products – Wendy’s Natural Cut Fries with Sea Salt, Reese’s Mini’s, Orville Redenbacher’s Pop-Up Bowl, Kraft Philadelphia Cooking Crème, Baileys Coffee Creamers, and Digiorno Pizza and Cookies. The top nine most memorable products of 2011 were featured on the front page of the USA Today Money section in a Snapshot on January 18th.
Furthermore, the USA Today Snapshot on January 26th featured the most memorable products of the past ten years in honor of the study’s tenth anniversary. Interestingly, the top seven most remembered products are all technology products with Apple appearing three times on this list with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
Another striking finding from the study cited in a Snapshot on the front page of the USA Today Money section illustrating the increasing importance of products Made in the USA. In 2008, less than one-half of Americans (48%) based their purchase decision on a product being Made in the USA, but three years later, nearly two-thirds of consumers (60%) cite being Made in the USA as influencing their purchases.
